Formerly Rockford Trust Building
Building History: Designed by famous Chicago architect Daniel Burnham, this historical building delivers a commanding view of the Rock River and downtown Rockford. A prime location, with 62 luxury loft apartments, Burnham Lofts is walking or biking distance to the city’s best entertainment venues, nightlife and summer festivals. Project: Sullivan’s Foods Store – Mt. Morris, IL
(New Store and Parking Lot Construction)
Project Scope of Work: E-Squared Electric provided labor and material to install the electrical systems for this new 23,000 sq. ft. grocery store and 31,000 sq. ft. parking lot. The project included construction work on the new building while maintaining operations in the adjacent, existing building and then demolition of the old store once the new store was complete.

Project Generator Peaking Plant – Roscoe, IL
(Installation of a 2.5MW Diesel Generator and "Outside the
Fence Work" for the Utility Substation Interconnect)
Project Scope of Work: E-Squared Electric provided labor and material to connect the output of a 2.5MW (2,500kW) diesel generator to the local utility’s (rural electric cooperative) 12.47k-138kV substation. This project’s scope of work also required E-Squared Electric to install the generator and transformer equipment pads, vaults and concrete encased duct bank. Once commissioned, this generator is operated during peak demand days when electricity is in short supply. The generator powers a 480 volt, 3-phase circuit that is connected to a transformer where the voltage is stepped up to 12.47kV to match the utility company’s substation distribution voltage. Payback for the utility company’s investment is derived from the expense saved by not having to purchase electricity from a generating source outside the utility company’s operating territory when costs are high due to increased demand. This was the second project E-Squared Electric performed for PowerSecure.

Project Love’s Travel Stop – Roscoe, IL
(Parking Lot Expansion and Shower/Laundry Addition)
Project Scope of Work: This was a single site but awarded under two separate contracts. One contract required E-Squared Electric to provide labor and material to install pole lighting for this 3-acre, paved parking lot expansion at the existing travel stop facility along I-90 at the Rockton Road exit. The parking lot expansion provides room to accommodate overnight parking for an additional (58) semi-tractor trailers. The other contract was for the installation of wiring systems related to a building addition containing shower and laundry facilities for over-the-road drivers.

Project Scope of Work: E-Squared Electric provided labor and material for the electrical systems related to the remodel of this existing 30,000 sq. ft. grocery store. The project included construction work that had to take place while simultaneously maintaining store operations.

Project Metropolitan Hall Loft Apartments – Rockford, IL
(Conversion of Two Buildings to 8-Unit Loft
Apartments with Commercial Development in Each)
Project Scope of Work: E-Squared Electric provided labor and material for the electrical systems related to the remodel of these two historic, 3-story buildings in downtown Rockford. This project included construction work with historic preservation requirements. Each building consisted of converting their interiors to 8-unit loft apartments for the upper floors and the build-out of retail tenant spaces on the ground floor level of each building as well. Electrical work included the installation of single-phase (apartments) and three phase (retail tenants) electrical services for each building. Electrical services provided separate metering of each residential and commercial tenant space.

Project Haskell Apartments – Rockford, IL
(Electrical Service Upgrade and Conversion to Electric Heat)
Project Scope of Work: E-Squared Electric provided labor and material for the electrical service upgrade and conversion to electric heat for this existing 35-unit, 5-story apartment building. The project included upgrading the existing tenant electrical services to accommodate the added load of converting to electric heat from a central boiler system. E-Squared Electric furnished and installed electric heating units throughout the building and new multi-metering facilities for the entire building (including single-phase services for the residential tenants and three-phase services for two commercial units and the building’s house panels). All the electrical work for this project was performed while the building was fully occupied.

Project Viking Chemical – Rockford, IL
(Electrical Service Upgrade)
Project Scope of Work: E-Squared Electric provided labor and material for upgrading the existing electrical service from 800 amps, 240-volt, 3-phase, 3-wire to 208Y/120-volt, 3-phase, 4-wire at this existing industrial facility. E-Squared Electric’s contract included construction of a new electrical room and furnishing and installing the new electrical service while at the same time maintaining operation of the existing electrical service during construction.
